A Democrat hoping to replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress has taken down a 'racist and sexist' campaign website used to mock a rival after admitting the tone-deaf attack 'missed the mark.'

California state senator Scott Wiener launched an AI chatbot last Monday which impersonated his opponent, District 1 Supervisor Connie Chan.

That chatbot was branded 'racist and sexist' by Pelosi and a slew of other Democrats who called it 'a gross misuse of technology.'

Just five days after its launch, Wiener's campaign backtracked and said they would be taking down the website and the multiple billboards that promoted it.

Wiener said the bot, ConnieChan.ai, was meant to be a parody highlighting Chan's record on housing, public transit and other issues.

'Today, we are taking down the chatbot, and the billboards that promoted it will come down soon,' he announced Friday.

As fine a job the boys at Kalar Car Wash do on this industrial estate close to Huddersfield town centre in West Yorkshire, one would be hard-pressed to describe their work as skilled labour.

Yet the car wash is one of more than 140,000 firms in Britain with a Home Office licence to sponsor visas intended to bring in 'skilled workers' from overseas.

Hundreds of kebab houses, chippies, chicken shops, vape shops, off-licences, barbers and a handful of hand car washes such as Kalar have successfully applied to become visa sponsors.

They pay just £611 for the privilege, which, in theory, allows them to hire 'skilled workers' from far-flung countries who are then given a visa to stay in Britain for up to five years.

After that, they can apply to remain here permanently.

The federal government is demanding answers after Jetstar and Qatar Airways planes were involved in a potentially disastrous incident.

A Jetstar flight was preparing to depart Sydney Airport for the Gold Coast when it almost collided with a Qatar Airways plane at 7am on Sunday.

The Jetstar Airbus 320 pilot was forced to brake suddenly to avoid a collision with the Qatari plane on the tarmac.

The Qatar Airways Boeing 777, which was not carrying any passengers, was being towed by an aircraft tug and received minor damage.

A Jetstar spokesperson said its aircraft was following instructions from air traffic controllers when the pilots were forced to brake firmly as another aircraft came into 'close proximity'.

Transport Minister Catherine King said the series of disruptions over consecutive days at Sydney Airport, with grounded flights and lengthy delays compounded by Sunday's near miss, were not good enough.

'Airservices Australia needs to be better at managing these disruptions,' she said.

'They cause significant challenges to passengers, staff and airlines.'

Royal Navy surveillance drones used by Britain's elite special forces were fitted with cameras containing Chinese-made components that were secretly sending data to an address in China.

The K3 Scout drones, operated by Royal Marines, were found to be transmitting so-called 'heartbeat' communications to an IP address in China.

The signals were designed to tell a remote device that the cameras were online and operating normally.

The discovery has triggered national security concerns and forced the Ministry of Defence to strip the cameras of their internet connectivity.

Officials insist there is no evidence that sensitive military information or Ministry of Defence systems were accessed or transmitted overseas.

But the revelation has raised fresh questions about the security of Britain's military supply chains – and whether Chinese technology has found its way into highly sensitive areas used by special forces.

The £12million fleet has been in use since March and was supplied by British defence contractor Kraken Technology Group.

Kraken had sourced the cameras from a third-party supplier which had provided assurances over their security.

The Met Police seized more than £8million worth of vehicles including a Ferrari worth £3.7million following a supercar meet-up in London.

In just two days between August 7 and August 9, officers detained a staggering 90 luxury vehicles across Hyde Park, Kensington and Chelsea.

The record-breaking seizure was part of an operation involving 120 officers targeting uninsured drivers and anti-social and dangerous driving.

It is believed that the large number of vehicles gathered in the capital for a meet-up where wealthy owners take to the roads in their flash cars.

But some motorists are thought to have shipped the vehicles into Britain without the insurance valid on UK roads. 

One of the priciest vehicles seized by the police was a one of 499 Ferrari Monza SP2 worth an eye-watering £3.7million.

The motorist was only carrying a provisional driving license and had been in the car for one hour before officers stopped the vehicle. 

Other supercars seized from Friday to Sunday included a Lamborghini Revuelto, a Rolls-Royce Wraith and a Porsche 911 GT3, to name a few. 

Australia has been warned the country is vulnerable to attacks for at least the next ten years as an urgent defence probe is launched into the nation's weaknesses.

Former Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs Mike Pezzullo told Daily Mail that the decade-long wait for major defence programs such as AUKUS to come online placed Australia in a 'window of vulnerability'.

If war were to break out in the region - specifically between China and the US - it would likely spell disaster for Australia, with some predictions putting a Pacific-based conflict as soon as 18 months away.

A raging wildfire that erupted 'like a bomb' has forced tens of thousands of Canadians to evacuate their homes.

Dozens of residents were rescued by aircraft while thousands of others took to traffic-jammed roads in an effort to escape the devastating Bald Range fire.

The blaze has ravaged at least 53 square miles across British Columbia since it erupted Friday.

The fire since doubled in size to engulf Summerland, Peachland and other areas of the province, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

Premier David Eby announced a state of emergency on Saturday as more than 100 other wildfires burned throughout the area.

He described the Bald Range blaze as 'like a bomb going off in the Summerland region' which tore across 2,000 acres in roughly an hour.

The fire created its own weather system sparking lightning strikes and sending flames up to 200 feet high.

Officials said the blaze began around 5.30pm on Friday but have yet to determine its cause.

A right-wing political commentator has criticised high school students planning to walk out of class to protest Pauline Hanson, arguing that they would be better off in school than out on the street.

The High School Anti-Capitalists Group - one of the organisers of the protests - released a video late last week urging Queensland students to walk out of school to demonstrate against One Nation.

'Students in Queensland are going to walk out on this Thursday to fight against Pauline Hanson,' an organiser said in a video.

'If you hate Pauline Hanson, you have to be there to learn how to fight her and her racism.'

A father and his young son who mysteriously disappeared after going for a walk have been found safe following a massive multi-state search.

Todd Sabatini, 36, and his toddler Theo left their home in McHenry, Illinois at around 12pm on Saturday.

Family described the outing as a 'normal activity' but became concerned when they failed to return by 4pm.

They contacted the McHenry Police Department, which began a frantic search and managed to locate Theo's abandoned stroller, before determining Sabatini had driven 65 miles to Wisconsin before vanishing again.

Just after 7pm on Sunday, police confirmed that the father and son had been found.

'We want to reiterate that both Todd & Theo have been found safely by our Detectives,' the department wrote on Facebook. 

'We want to extend a BIG thank you to our community, local agencies, and Wisconsin agencies for assisting in the safe return of Todd & Theo.'

Authorities have not released any further details about the case, including where exactly they were located. 

An Aussie has shared her devastation after using her super to fund botched surgery in Thailand that left her with no breasts and nipples moved higher on her chest. 

Melbourne grandmother Lynda Lazaridis said she wanted to treat herself to a body makeover with a cosmetic surgeon in Bangkok for her 60th birthday in 2022, after losing 15kg and being left with back pain and excess skin. 

She told 60 Minutes her surgeon suggested thigh lifts, liposuction, arm surgery and breast surgery to ease her discomfort. 

'They recommended I have a butt lift, thigh lift inner and outer, liposuction, something called a reversed tummy tuck - I had no idea what that was - and arms,' she said. 

Ms Lazaridis said she chose the company because the procedures would be significantly cheaper than in Australia, where it would have cost more than $200,000. 

While discussing payment plans, she claimed the company told her to consider accessing her superannuation by pretending the surgery was 'treatment for a life threatening illness' even though it wasn't urgent.

A man accused of murdering his Bali-born ex-wife and dumping her body 90km away before trying to leave the country is seeking a deal to avoid a life jail sentence.

Indonesian mother-of-two Eva Lasrini, 53, from Dandenong in Melbourne's south-east, was reported missing on April 2 after failing to board her flight to Bali to visit her daughters.

Her body was found two days later near Little River Road and Princes Freeway in Little River, about 44km south-west of Melbourne CBD.

On Monday, Allen Keys, 67, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates' Court by video link from jail and the court heard he hopes to do a deal to avoid a possible life sentence. 

Keys had been arrested at Melbourne Airport as he attempted to board a flight to Bali and was promptly charged with her murder. 

The court heard Keys' Victorian Legal Aid lawyer had made an 'offer' to the Director of the Office of Public Prosecutions on July 31, which remained under review. 

It remains unclear what kind of offer Keys has put forward but it would likely see him spend a significantly reduced period behind bars if accepted.

Donald Trump has admitted that 'rushing' renovations on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool did result in a 'contractor error,' but insists the damage to the landmark was caused by a vandal.

In a post on his Truth Social platform Sunday night, Trump cited witness testimony from a National Park Service (NPS) worker who claimed to have seen former Olympic canoeist David Hearn damaging the pool.

Hearn was facing felony property destruction charges after being accused of reaching into the water and removing some of the structure's lining in June.

The charges were dropped by Trump's longtime ally Jeanine Pirro on Thursday after the Department of Justice determined that the damage was inflicted by contractors.

In his post, the president conceded that he had hurried through the $16 million renovation.

'As with many jobs, there was also some contractor error done by rushing the job for a July 4th opening, but it was a very small area of this massive Pool, and was relatively inconsequential,' Trump said.
