Hayden Panettiere's 'second mom' reveals behind-the-scenes heartache: 'She never stood a chance'

Hayden Panettiere's heartbroken 'second mom' has revealed her devastation over the actress's sudden death at just 36 - and told how the troubled star 'tried and tried' to overcome the demons that plagued her adult life.

The Heroes and Nashville star was found unresponsive at her home in Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday afternoon after an acquaintance called 911 to report that she was in cardiac arrest.

Panettiere was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to save her.

Police said their preliminary investigation found 'no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances,' while a post-mortem examination found no signs of trauma that would have contributed to her death.

Her cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.

Now Lynsey Lonberg, 73, a longtime family friend whom Panettiere described in her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, as her 'second mother,' has spoken of her anguish at losing the little girl she watched grow into a Hollywood star.

Sitting at the bar of a restaurant in Piermont, New York, on Monday afternoon, Lonberg remembered the animal-loving child who played at her home, the fiercely focused actress she became - and the painful struggles she believes

Architect who 'threatened to kill' daughter of oral surgeon and beautician after he botched plans for their new clinic and cut through a gas pipe is struck off

An architect accused of threatening to kill an oral surgeon and beautician's daughter after messing up building plans for their new clinic has been struck off.

Joan Beltri launched a 'campaign of harassment, abuse and threats' via email and voicemail towards his clients over work in Winchester, Hampshire, a tribunal heard.

He also threatened married couple Dr James Escoda-Francoli, 45, and 36-year-old Carolina Sampietro – saying he would 'kill them all'.

Dr Escoda-Francoli, a specialist oral surgeon, and Mrs Sampietro, an aesthetics practitioner, hired Mr Beltri to work on the beauty clinic they were building.

But the relationship soured after a series of blunders, including the cutting through of a gas pipe while Mr Beltri, 50, carried out work for which he was not qualified.

Mr Beltri – who describes himself as a structural engineer and an artificial intelligence engineer – failed to secure permission from the local council to work on the Grade II listed building in Winchester.

It led to Mr Beltri, a Spanish compatriot of his clients, insulting Dr Escoda-Francoli – claiming his wife was sleeping with other men and saying: 'If

Labour under fire for pouring millions of pounds into 'pie in the sky' Net Zero scheme which aims to stop passenger planes leaving vapour trails in the sky, with critics warning it threatens to push up the cost of flying for families

Labour came under fire today for pouring millions of pounds into a 'daft' Net Zero scheme which aims to stop passenger planes from leaving vapour trails in the sky.

Ministers said they were handing over nearly £3million of taxpayers' cash for the trial, under which pilots flying Transatlantic routes will be told to avoid areas of sky where there's a greater risk of forming trails because of atmospheric conditions.

Experts claim the trails can form clouds which trap heat and contribute to climate change.

But critics dubbed the scheme 'pie in the sky' and a 'waste' of taxpayers' cash which threatens to push up ticket prices, as changing flight paths can use up more jet fuel.

Under the scheme, UK transport officials and air traffic controllers will team up with the Met Office and tech giant Google to identify where planes are at risk of forming vapour trails and tell them to change altitude.

Aviation minister Keir Mather hailed the 'world first' trial as he unveiled it this morning, adding: 'By testing small tweaks to flight paths

Jared Kushner admits Iran peace deal talks are in dire straits and warns Trump will have to be 'very patient'

The president's son-in-law and political advisor Jared Kushner admitted that a peace deal with Iran is 'not there yet' and warned Trump not to rush amid 'good dialogue.'

Kushner, the husband of Ivanka Trump, laid bare that negotiations with Iran weren't nearing a close and said the president will 'be very patient' in making a deal.

'There's really not a lot of trust between American and Iran after all these years of not having these relations and dialogues,' he told Fox News on Monday.

'But obviously, they're engaging in a very strong way and that's quite positive, but we're not there yet on understanding.'

Kushner championed the conversations between the US government and Iran as 'probably more robust than it's maybe ever been.'

'There's been a lot of good dialogue which I think is very, very helpful, right? You can't make deals with each other if you don't understand each other. You have to exchange views,' he continued.

'President Trump is gonna be very patient. He doesn't like to - he doesn't wanna rush to

'Honeymoon' helicopter spun out of control before crashing on Greek island, killing British newlyweds - moments after mysterious radio silence as pilot said he was about to land

Footage shows how a helicopter carrying a British couple on their honeymoon spun out of control seconds before crashing on a Greek island, killing the newlyweds.

The private air taxi reportedly suffered a mechanical failure before smashing into the ground near a heliport in Sifnos last night, killing Alexander Cromie, Marie Ebert, and pilot Giorgos Raikos.

CCTV footage shows the Bell 206 aircraft rotate erratically in the air as it quickly lost altitude, before descending to the ground.

After taking off from the wider area of Markopoulo, the pilot informed the competent service that he was preparing to land, but his message was followed by a mysterious radio silence, reported Athens daily newspaper Ta Nea.

Residents near the helipad reported hearing an unusual noise from the helicopter before the tragic crash in the Tholos area.

The newlyweds, believed to have been in their early 30s and living in London, were thought to be on their honeymoon at the time of the accident. The 55-year-old pilot is said to have been a retired Greek Air Force officer.

Footage shows how aircraft was immediately engulfed in a fireball, with smoke seen billowing into the sky from

Moment violent thugs emerge from BMWs brandishing 'zombie knives' before brutally attacking four people and stealing three watches worth £1,000 in two separate robberies

This is the moment a pair of violent thugs pull up in a BMW brandishing 'zombie knives' and attack four people, leaving one man stabbed and a woman brutally assaulted.

Getaway drivers Agandy Anderson, 30, and Kayne Stewart, 27, were jailed for working with the knife men in two separate robberies which happened just five minutes apart.

The two robberies saw three watches worth £1,000 stolen in the City of London just before 3am on September 8, 2024. The attacks left their victims to 'fear' for their 'safety in life', one said in an impact statement.

CCTV captured the first attack on Appold Street.

Two armed thugs leapt out of the BMW at a set of traffic lights and seized upon a group of pedestrians - two men and a woman walking together after a night out.

The gangsters threatened them with what victims described as 'zombie knives' and demanded their watches.

A scuffle ensued which ended with one man being stabbed twice in the buttocks and receiving a wound to the head which bled heavily. The thieves then stole his £400 Citizen watch.

The woman was kicked in the head in the

Out-of-her-depth woke Seattle mayor faces fresh hammer blow as Washington's Democrat governor blasts her, days after calls to recall her

Seattle's embattled socialist mayor Katie Wilson was condemned by her own state's Democrat governor as he re-shared a scathing social media post about her handling of a mass shooting

Washington Governor Bob Ferguson shared a post from journalist Ari Hoffman this week which criticized Wilson's response to a shooting at a food festival on July 27 that left three people dead.

Hoffman reported that when a Zoom call was hastily convened for Washington leaders in the aftermath of the tragedy, Wilson refused to turn on her camera or speak.

He said when he made a Freedom of Information Act request for records of the call, Ferguson's office claimed that it does not have a recording. Ferguson's own account then re-shared the post that criticized Wilson's antics.

Hoffman responded on X that the Democrat governor's move 'wasn't on my bingo card for today.'

'He seems to really be trying to throw Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson under the bus,' wrote Hoffman, an editor at conservative news outlet Post Millennial, adding: 'Interesting that the governor follows me on social media.'

Ferguson's account appeared to go

Cocaine kingpins at one of America's biggest party schools made frat pledges package drugs as part of their initiation, police say

Two fraternities at Penn State University have been accused of being involved in a cocaine trafficking ring after investigators discovered that pledges were allegedly made to package drugs during their initiation.

More than a dozen students in two off-campus organizations, Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi, face charges after members and pledges allegedly cut and packaged cocaine and distributed it to other students.

'This was a coordinated and highly profitable drug-trafficking crew revolving around two senior members of the fraternities, other fraternity brothers and pledges,' Attorney General Dave Sunday said on Sunday.

'In fact, according to the evidence uncovered, cutting and packaging cocaine was, for some pledges, an indoctrination into the fraternities.'

Agostino Abbatiello and Thomas Robinson, two members of the organization, were believed to have been the main suppliers for the frats, according to the investigation.

Both allegedly made regular trips to Philadelphia and New York for 'large quantities of cocaine,' the Attorney General said.

Abbatiello and Robinson were two of four charged; Mohammed Hurabi and Lars Zeepvat were also charged with felony corrupt organizations, conspiracy, dealing in proceeds of unlawful activity and other offenses.

A fifth person, Robert Zanolla, was charged with felony conspiracy and criminal

Andy Burnham insists he's NOT embarrassed after being duped by a hoaxer pretending to be Donald Trump's chief of staff

Andy Burnham has insisted he's not embarrassed after falling victim to a hoaxer pretending to be Donald Trump's chief of staff.

The Prime Minister was duped by an unknown individual who posed as top White House aide Susie Wiles.

He sent several messages in exchanges that began before he became PM and continued after he took office on July 20.

But when asked by broadcasters today if he was embarrassed about the contact, Mr Burnham said: 'No, I'm not.

'Because there was a minimal exchange, nothing of consequence, and actually, quickly I realised that this needed to be reported, and I did so.'

Speaking from Wolverhampton bus station, the PM added: 'So I handled it in the right way. All politicians are receiving these pressures and these challenges, but I did everything right.

'There was a minimal exchange of information of zero consequence, and it was quickly reported.'

Asked what action had been taken to find out who had impersonated Ms Wiles, Mr Burnham replied: 'The correct action has been taken here and in the US.'

NHS halts Palantir training amid pressure from Labour MPs and pro-Palestine lobby to scrap £330m contract

The NHS scrapped plans to train staff on how to use technology made by Palantir over fears of a backlash.

The Florida-based firm has helped develop a new data platform for the NHS to bring together information from across the service.

Official figures show that an extra 110,000 operations have gone ahead since the Federated Data Platform (FDP) was introduced.

But plans to train more staff on how to use the technology have been ditched following negative publicity.

Tom Bartlett, former deputy director of data engineering at NHS England, was asked to hold a national webinar by a senior member of the NHS Information Skills Development Network (ISDN).

Palantir was co-founded in 2003 by libertarian billionaire and PayPal founder Peter Thiel (pictured), an outspoken critic of the NHS who gave more than $1million to the 2016 Trump presidential campaign

But he was later told that the network's leaders had blocked the session because they did not want to be 'associated with it'.

Palantir has come under fire from some MPs, particularly those on the hard-Left, as well as pro-Palestine protestors, for

Disney sues Trump over 'retaliatory' war on Jimmy Kimmel and The View

Disney has sued Donald Trump's FCC over a 'retaliatory campaign' against ABC that includes a license review of its stations and a probe into The View.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in DC District Court alleges the administration is trying to punish ABC for speech it dislikes and is violating its First Amendment rights.

'Acting through the Federal Communications Commission, the Administration has waged a retaliatory campaign against ABC for a single reason: it disapproves of what ABC broadcasts,' the suit states.

The action seeks a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to halt the FCC's license-renewal process for ABC's eight owned stations.

Those stations were ordered to file early renewal applications in April, years ahead of schedule, after Jimmy Kimmel joked that Melania Trump had 'a glow like an expectant widow' and the president demanded the late-night host be fired.

The White House and Melania condemned the bit as 'hateful and violent' - coming two days before a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner - while Kimmel

Family of exploding robot vacuum victim left fighting for life with horrific burns share a big milestone in his recovery

An Australian tradesman critically injured when a robot vacuum cleaner exploded inside his home will soon leave hospital after five successful surgeries.

Lachie Perrem, 25, had his vacuum running when the device suddenly erupted into flames inside his home on Airgate Close in Brabham, in Perth's north-east, on July 2.

He was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital with burns to 75 per cent of his body and has since undergone multiple surgeries.

In an update to his GoFundMe page on Sunday, his mother said Mr Perrem was 'healing really well'.

'If everything continues to go well, Lachie could be out of hospital by September 9!' Fiona Perrem wrote.

Mr Perrem underwent skin grafting for his legs last Tuesday and has seen 'amazing progress' with the recovery to his hands.

'Every little bit of movement feels like such a huge milestone after everything he has been through,' Ms Perrem wrote.

Mr Perrem's fiancée, Bri Thompson, recently adopted him a kitten to 'keep him company and give him something to play with when he gets home'.
