The state House in the Lone Star State flipped blue in the midterm elections that also saw Democrats gain Texas statewide offices and the United States Senate seat.

For the first time in nearly a quarter of a century, Democrats will control the state legislature chamber as Republicans suffered major losses in Tuesday's elections.

According to the Associated Press, Democrats hold 77 seats in the state House following the midterms, crossing the 75-seat threshold to gain a majority. Republicans won 63 seats, with 10 races still waiting to be called.

GOP candidates also lost across statewide elections, including the U.S. Senate seat, the governor's office, and the races for lieutenant governor, attorney general and railroad commissioner in a Democrat sweep, per the AP.

However, Republicans in Texas still hold a majority of seats for the U.S. House as well as the state Senate, which has a makeup of 19 Republicans and 12 Democrats after Tuesday, the AP reported.

According to The Texas Tribune, going into the election, Republicans held 86 seats in the state House and 18 seats in the state Senate, with Democrats holding 62 seats and 12 seats, respectively. One state Senate seat was vacant prior to the election.

The news outlet also noted that Democrats gained ground in the State Board of Education, with results still coming in to determine which party will ultimately hold the majority.

In the gubernatorial race, Democrats garnered a historic win, gaining the office for the first time in more than three decades, with Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa (D-Texas) set to take on the role in January. She will be the state's third female executive in its more than 180-year history.

In another political upheaval, Democrat nominee James Talarico won the U.S. Senate race, flipping the seat blue for the first time since 1988, and marking the first time a Democrat has held the office since 1993.
