First Lady Melania Trump called for a comprehensive peace deal between Ukraine and Russia while giving an update on the temporary localized ceasefire she brokered in a war-torn Ukrainian city.
On Thursday, Trump was joined by representatives from Ukraine and Russia as she expressed hope that the humanitarian ceasefire might lead to a "more enduring" peace between the warring nations.
The first lady first learned of the dire situation in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky in September. She recalled how she immediately instructed Marc Beckman, her representative, to reach out to both countries through established communication channels she had established to repatriate 34 children with their families after being displaced by the over four-year war.

Ukraine and Russia both acknowledged that previous efforts to establish a ceasefire in the region were unsuccessful and agreed to engage in negotiations with Trump as the exclusive intermediary.
From October 27th until November 1st, Ukraine and Russia halted all military action in the Kherson area to allow for humanitarian groups to provide aid such as food, clean water and medicine, and for residents to safely evacuate.
"Last week in Oleshky and neighboring areas of Kherson, people experienced the simple joys of life for the first time since 2022," said the first lady. They walked down familiar streets without fears of explosions."

Trump said nearly 800 people "left their homes in search of safety, loved ones and a renewed sense of being."
Four journalists, who were in attendance at the White House on Thursday, were selected from Newsmax to enter Oleshky and document the progress of the humanitarian mission.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, stated that the first lady "played a crucial leadership role" in coordinating the operation and in her previous work in reunifying Russian and Ukrainian families.
He also presented Trump with a painting from an 11-year-old living in — and safely evacuated from —Oleshky that read, "I love Melania."
"This message from children, frankly, overshadows any diplomatic statement anybody can make," Dmitriev stated.
David Arakhamia, the leader of the Servant of the People's Political Party of Ukraine, took to the podium to explain how the mission in Oleshky gave both sides an opportunity to learn the "mechanics" of "how to actually keep the peace when the peace comes."
He also hinted that there may be similar efforts in the future, saying he would like to personally "come to the next place."
He noted that not only people, but pets were evacuated from Oleshky.
Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets presented Trump with the Order of Princess Olga, First Class, a state award from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The award is the highest grade of a Ukrainian civil decoration bestowed upon women for significant personal merits in state service, production, science, education, culture, charity, and social activities.
Trump shared letters she wrote personally with the Russian and Ukrainian representatives, asking that they be delivered directly to their respective heads of state.
