‘Lawyer up’: Dem congressman’s threat to Republicans likely to backfire big-time

The threats to Republicans across America from a Democrat congressman may provide one of the biggest backfires ever seen.

It was Democrat Rep. Robert Garcia, a Peruvian representing a California congressional district, who went overboard when Republicans took huge losses in this year’s midterm elections.

Contemplating his possible new role as chairman of the House Oversight Committee, he issued a two-word threat.

“Lawyer up.”

His comments prompted jokes about how new forests will be needed for “all the subpoenas they’ll print.”

Garcia picked out some specific targets for his threats, too.

But there probably going to be a hitch in his campaign:

According to a report at Twitchy, constitutional expert Alan Dershowitz explained that such a threat from a powerful member of Congress, including openly declaring “you better get a lawyer ’cause we’re coming after you” actually hands “any future court challenge the perfect piece of evidence of political motivation.”

Dershowitz said Garcia’s threats could be seen as obvious evidence of motivation for Democrats “to get Republicans. And it’s wrong. It’s illegal.”

The report said, “Now the very statement meant to intimidate targets may be the thing that sinks the investigations before they even start.”

That wasn’t the only cloud on Garcia’s horizon either. Reports say he’s being sued by billionaire Leon Black for defamation.
