WATCH: Hockey Fans Mercilessly Boo Democrat Governor

New Jersey Devil fans booed and heckled Gov. Mikie Sherrill at the Prudential Center on Wednesday.

The team honored their Olympians, including Team USA hero Jack Hughes, who scored the game-winning goal in the gold medal game against Canada.

The Newark crowd erupted into boos when the PA spokesperson introduced the Democrat governor.

More from the New York Post:

Sherrill, who assumed office in the Garden State just over a month ago, was on hand for the ceremonial puck drop and to present Hughes with a New Jersey state flag.

The pregame ceremony honored the star forward for scoring Team USA’s gold medal-clinching, overtime goal against Canada in the Winter Olympics final on Sunday. It was the Americans’ first gold medal since 1980.

The first couple — wearing custom Devils jerseys — Hughes and Devils managing partner David Blitzer and his wife, Allison Blitzer, posed at center ice for a photo.

The governor’s office shared the pics of the photo op with Sherrill congratulating Hughes, saying a “part of history” was in New Jersey.

“A piece of history was brought back to Jersey tonight,” Sherrill said.

“Congratulations to the men and women of @usahockey on bringing home gold – and @njdevils’ own Jack Hughes for scoring the Golden Goal. Keep making Jersey proud,” she added.

“New Jersey Devils fans boo Democrat governor Mikie Sherrill as she’s introduced. Hockey fans are over the Democrat attacks on a gold medal winning team. Love to see it,” OutKick founder Clay Travis commented.

Fox News shared further:

“You managed to somehow get booed loudly during the most festive thing at the Rock ever,” one X user wrote.

Another user wrote, “Didn’t everyone boo you?”

Sherrill has been a target of criticism from patriotic Americans dating back to her 2025 campaign, when it was revealed she was kept from participating in her Naval Academy commencement due to disciplinary action involving midshipmen stealing test answers in a particularly challenging electrical engineering course required for all non-engineering majors.

Sherill downplayed her involvement, saying, “I didn’t turn in some of my classmates, so I didn’t walk but graduated and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving for nearly 10 years with the highest level of distinction and honor.”
