Monday on MS NOW’s “On the Line,” former CIA Director John Brennan said one day there will be “law courses that are going to be looking at the corruption” of President Donald Trump and Attorney General Todd Blanche.

Brennan said, “You know, the legal profession has to take a look at itself. I’m sure that in years, in the future, there’s going to be law courses that are going to be looking at the corruption under, you know, Trump and Blanche years. It’s one thing for lawyers, criminal lawyers, to be able to defend unsavory characters and do everything possible because they’re owed that by our system of governance and system of justice. But when lawyers come into the government, they have a higher obligation.”

He added, “And I really do think law schools, and law practices, as well as bar associations really need to emphasize the distinction. When you’re in government, you don’t play by the same rules as you do outside. A federal jury convicted a Georgia man of laundering more than $2.7 million stolen from victims through online fraud schemes.

Babajide Adesayo, 41, of Douglasville, was found guilty Aug. 6 after an eight-day trial. The jury convicted him on two counts of conspiracy to commit money laundering and 16 counts of transactional money laundering.

A U.S. government source confirmed that Adesayo is an American citizen who became a naturalized citizen in 2015.

The fraud operation ran from April 2020 through September 2021, with scammers posing online as friends, business associates, or romantic partners to gain their victims' trust, prosecutors said.

"Adesayo was a key member of a complex, transnational network that preyed upon elderly victims and siphoned their retirement savings overseas, mainly to China, Hong Kong, and Nigeria, to make recovery impossible," said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg.

A staggering 191 percent surge in illegal migrant arrivals at Ceuta preceded the massive late July invasion of the exclave, Spanish government authorities documented Monday.

A high school student in the Philippines killed a fellow student before committing suicide in a livestreamed Tuesday morning school shooting.

The suspected shooter – identified as Mohammad Mael Jalani – was reportedly carrying a rifle and a pistol when he opened fire on the campus.

The deadly incident Ateneo de Zamboanga University, a private Catholic High School in Zamboanga. The Philippines’ Interior Department Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed to the state-run Philippine News Agency (PNA) that the perpetrator was a 9th grade student, while the victim was a 10th grade teenager. The Associated Press (AP) identified the shooter as 9th Grade student Mohammad Mael Jalani.

Remulla detailed that at around 07:50 a.m. (local time, the perpetrator entered the high school bringing “one pistol and one rifle” and started firing indiscriminately — hitting the 10th grade at the building’s fourth floor student before going upstairs to the 5th floor and committing suicide by jumping.

Per the Secretary, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is presently conducting an investigation to establish the motives behind the shooting, the origin and ownership of the firearms used, and how they were brought inside the school campus.

An Algerian migrant with a deportation order has been accused of burglarising homes in the Gironde region of France after they were evacuated as a result of the wildfires ravaging the area.

Hundreds of thousands of residents had their lives turned upside down due to the devastating forest fires in South West France, which are believed to be some of the most significant since the Second World War, seeing over 104,000 acres set on fire over the summer.

However, some in the Cestas commune in Gironde were not just victimised by the fires, but also allegedly by illegal migrants who burglarised homes that had been evacuated, the local Sud Ouest paper reported.

This includes a 28-year-old Algerian, who is said to have robbed at least five evacuated homes, despite having an OQTF "Obligation de Quitter le Territoire Français" deportation order after having been convicted of four previous crimes in France.

Security camera footage put the migrant on the scene of the crimes, and DNA evidence confirmed his presence in at least some of the five homes, which was further corroborated by geolocation data from his phone.

According to 911 audio, Panettiere reportedly died after going into cardiac arrest during a possible overdose at her rented apartment in South Carolina, per the Daily Mail.

In audio of a 911 call made at 1.51pm yesterday, a female dispatcher described the 36-year-old Heroes and Nashville star as suffering a ‘cardiac arrest.’

A few moments later, a male dispatcher could be heard saying that Panettiere had suffered a suspected overdose at the home in Greenville.

The Greenville County Coroner later indicated that Panettiere had “no signs of trauma that would have contributed to the death.”

An unnamed source later indicated to TMZ that the nasal medication Narcan, which is used to treat opioid overdoses, was found in a mattress at the time of her death.

A string of collapsed book deals over suspected AI usage by authors is pushing the publishing industry to confront questions about authorship, trust and its own future.

The Wall Street Journal reports that shortly after landing a multimillion-dollar deal for a debut author, the novelist’s agents at Europa Content withdrew from the project, telling publishers in a July letter they could no longer verify the book had been wholly written by their client. The book was Call Me, I’ll Hide the Body, a crime novel by Jerry Falade, a Southern Methodist University graduate student. “This raises so many questions about authorship and what AI means for this industry,” the agency wrote. “But those are questions for another day.” Falade has denied the accusations, calling them racially motivated. “This has just been so terrible for me,” he said. “I haven’t been able to sleep well, I haven’t been able to eat.”

The case is one of several. In March, Hachette Book Group canceled the U.S. release of Mia Ballard’s horror novel Shy Girl amid allegations of AI use. Ballard, who originally self-published the book, denied the claims, saying an acquaintance who edited it had used AI.
