Disgraced deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has been charged with domestic violence and larceny-related offences, including allegations he stole a $41,000 gift intended for his second wedding.
Mehajer, 40, was arrested in Wentworth Point, in western Sydney, on Wednesday and taken to Auburn Police Station.
He was subsequently charged with domestic violence-related common assault, larceny greater than $15,000, and domestic violence-related 'stalk/intimidate' with intent to cause a person to fear physical harm.
The larceny charge relates to the alleged theft of jewellery worth $41,000 that was intended as a gift ahead of his second wedding, according to ABC News.
Mehajer was refused bail and was due to appear in court on Thursday.
He rose to prominence following his elaborate western Sydney wedding to Aysha Learmonth in 2015, which reportedly cost $1million.
The ceremony began with the groom arriving via helicopter and featured a motorcade of luxury vehicles and doves.
The wedding stirred controversy after the event closed a street in Lidcombe and Mehajer reportedly distributed fake flyers warning neighbours their cars would be towed if they got in the way.
More to come.
