President Donald Trump's endorsed candidate, former Oklahoma State Senator Mike Mazzei, has defeated Oklahoma State Representative Cyndi Munson,

prevailing as the state's next governor.

Mazzei (R-Okla.) won with 308,315 votes or 52%, on Tuesday, while Munson (D-Okla.) received 511,664 votes, or 45% when the Associated Press tallied all of the votes.

Trump endorsed Mazzei as a "MAGA Warrior" in May on Truth Social.

Mazzei was first elected to the Oklahoma State Senate in 2004 and served until he was term limited in 2016, later being appointed GOP assistant floor leader in 2007.

Mazzei outlined six top issues on his campaign platform: eliminating property tax for seniors and veterans aged 65 and older, protecting Oklahoma land from foreign ownership, education that prepares Oklahoma kids for real jobs, creating more high-paying jobs, delivering government accountability and protecting the right to life, which "begins at conception."

In K-12 education, he advocated for restoring parental transparency and prioritizing reading, math, science and critical thinking skills. He promised to "end wokeism in higher education teacher programs" and "tie higher compensation to performance" for teachers.

On the abortion, Mazzei's campaign platform states, "Every human being has a right to life, and government has a duty to protect it. Mike opposes abortion in all circumstances. His record proves it, and as Governor, he will lead with that same conviction."

Munson, on the other hand, wrote on her campaign website that during her tenure on the state legislature since 2015, she combatted "the most extreme measures in the Legislature, such as the strictest abortion ban in the country, attacks on trans kids, mandating the teaching of Bibles in public schools, and attacks on tribal sovereignty."

The Democrat candidate promised to prioritize workforce development, funding public schools and paying teachers better, fighting attempts to cut Medicaid, standing up to corporations that "take advantage of our people and resources," increasing tax relief and childhood tax credits, and supporting all forms of energy production.

She asserted on her campaign platform that "every life is valued," and therefore, she "will support a state question to overturn Oklahoma's extreme abortion ban and codify abortion access into our constitution."

Mazzei will succeed term-limited Republican Governor Kevin Stitt (R-Okla.) when his term concludes in January.
