Exclusive members' club in Mayfair is hiring... a 'butter sommelier'

You'll find no bitter butter - only better butter - on the menu of London's poshest new private members' club.

Cue The Pembroke, Belgravia's incoming 'super-members' club', which pledges to indulge its guests with the services of a dedicated 'butter sommelier'.

A half-page advertisement was posted in Country Life magazine for an enthusiast of the solid yellow stuff, ahead of the club's opening of this autumn, The Times reports.

The successful candidate will be able to confidently 'curate our butter assortment and assist in training staff using our silver butter trolley', the advert said.

A 'sports tzar' is also being sought, who will be responsible for ensuring the nine screens in the club's billiards room are tuned to best suit members' tastes.

And there is even a professional matchmaker role up for grabs, befitting of 'a charismatic person willing to work late'.

'You’ll have an eye for opposites that attract and be fine-tuned to the spontaneity and sophistication involved in the perfect seating plan,' the advert reads.

The Pembroke has made a serious stamp on London's private members' club scene before its doors have even opened.

The Pembroke, touted as London's first 'super-members' club', is opening at the site of a former prime minister's house on Grosvenor Place, Belgravia

Set in the home of former prime minister Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman, it is angled at the super-wealthy, who will pay £3,250 a year for the privilege of haunting its seven floors.

There will be an entire floor dedicated to billiards, multiple cocktail lounges, and a 'literary salon'.

The development, overlooking the King's back garden at Buckingham Palace, is rumoured as being funded by an Omani sovereign wealth fund.

A source at The Pembroke told The Times: 'It may sound indulgent, but it’s really a sign of the times.

'There’s a sommelier for wine, a barista for coffee, so why not butter?

'Members don’t just want good; they want considered, curated and expertly delivered.'

Of all the foodstuffs, or even condiments, butter may seem an unlikely contender for receiving such resources and attention.

But The Pembroke's curators have tapped into an appetite for gourmet butters, which was the basis for an entire cookbook from TV chef James Martin - Butter.

Chef Thomas Straker has had huge success on social media with recipes such as curried butter and chive-miso butter proving wildly popular.
