Moment muggers push woman, 90, with dementia to the ground before swiping her necklace and wedding ring

This is the horrendous moment when muggers shove a 90-year-old woman with dementia to the ground before stealing her necklace and wedding ring.

The incident happened right outside the pensioner's home on Morris Avenue in Newham, east London, on July 17, and left her with bruises on her face and cuts on her elbows.

The woman's daughter - who wishes to remain anonymous -  explained her mother has advanced dementia and needs to follow a particular routine every day to ease her condition.

Part of the routine is to walk to the shop in the morning and then sweep outside the house. It was at this point that the opportunistic thieves struck.

CCTV appears to show the woman being called to a car stopped on the street nearby.

The daughter said: 'What you can see on the footage is hands going in and out of the car and they take the chain off mum's neck. We're not sure how they get the ring off their finger.

'They sped off and pushed her to the ground and she was found on the curb by a neighbour - that's as far as we know.'

Her dementia means that the elderly victim unfortunately cannot remember what happened to her and is unable to give any further details to police, but the wounds still remain.

Thankfully, CCTV captured the incident and appears to show the assailants call her over to the car's window and speak to her.

Footage then seems to show them push her to the ground after swiping her jewellery and then driving off in the car.

Talking of her mother's injuries, the daughter said: 'Luckily it wasn't anything more serious. She doesn't understand; she keeps looking for her ring and getting quite distressed.

'She doesn't understand why we're not letting her out now. It's ruined her routine. I'm angry, she's 90, she's vulnerable and can't look after herself.'

She added that this is not the first time her mother had been robbed in old age either - three months ago her bracelet was allegedly stolen by thieves too.

The family and police are appealing for more information following the incident. No arrests have been made at this stage.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: 'Officers are currently investigating reports of a robbery, which occurred on Friday, 17 July.

'The victim, a woman in her 90s, had her jewellery stolen on Morris Avenue, Newham.

'Officers attended the scene and spoke with the victim, as well as witnesses in the area.

'Enquiries remain ongoing, including a review of CCTV footage, and no arrests have been made at this stage.'
