Mother, 31, is guilty of murdering her two-month-old daughter who suffered skull fractures, bleeding on the brain and broken ribs and collar bone

A mother has been found guilty of murdering her two-month-old daughter who suffered skull fractures, bleeding on the brain and broken bones.

Zara Arsalan, 31, was yesterday convicted of murdering her baby Harleen in 2020.

Paramedics found Harleen with a serious head injury and difficulty breathing after they received a call to say that the baby had fallen from her mother's lap.

She was taken to hospital from her house in West Bromwich but died the next day.

A post mortem examination found that she had likely been struck or hit against a hard object. The two-month-old was also likely shaken vigorously by her mother.

Harleen suffered skull fractures, bleeding on the brain, fractured ribs and a fractured collar bone at the hands of her mother.

Arsalan was arrested and later charged with Harleen's murder.

She denied killing her baby but was found guilty at Coventry Crown Court on Friday.

She will be sentenced on 12 March.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Poole said: 'This is an incredibly tragic case. Harleen was only two months old when she died at the hands of the person who should have been doing everything to keep her safe.

'Arsalan has never taken responsibility for her actions. Instead, she has repeatedly lied about what happened to Harleen despite being shown evidence that rejects her claims.

'I want to thank all of the officers involved as I know they were deeply affected by this investigation. They have worked incredibly hard to get justice for Harleen and her family.'
