A self-proclaimed 'scholar of the far right' was blasted on social media after she 'fled' the United States to Canada.
Nope Brigade is an academic researcher who studies conservative and right-wing ideologies, and recently 'fled' from the current Trump administration to Vancouver - one of the world's priciest cities.
Brigade posted a social media video begging for help after she and her family moved from Los Angeles, only to be hit with an even worse affordability crisis.
'For those who don't know, the housing crisis here is way worse than the US,' she said in the video.
'I lived in LA for six years and I have not faced rent as bad as here.'
Brigade explained that she, her partner, and their pets moved to Vancouver on a visitor visa, which prevents them from working.
They relocated with savings set aside, but are quickly burning through the funds and struggling to afford skyrocketing rent.
'In Canada, I think the cost of living crisis is worse here,' she said.
The 'far-right scholar,' who goes by the name Nope Brigade, posted a TikTok video asking for help with housing after she 'fled' the US to Canada
'Especially when you are shut out of the healthcare system and can't access any of the resources that Canadians have access to.
'And that's understandable, I'm not a citizen of the country, but it is making the financial situation dire.'
Most visitor visas allow stays of up to six months, and work permits are only granted to those with a temporary resident permit valid for six months or longer, according to the Government of Canada.
After bemoaning the situation, she asked for a place to stay, specifying that they wanted more than just a room - ideally for free or at below-market rates.
The scholar's video struck a nerve, with many Canadians and Americans slamming her for publicly groveling for a place to live on social media.
One user wrote on TikTok: 'Ma'am, no matter what happens please stay there. Signed, the United States of America,' with a Canadian replying: 'You kidding? We don't want her either!'
'All I heard was a lot of criticism regarding the place you chose to flee to, then after the criticism was the request for money,' another outraged user wrote.
Many slammed Brigade for not researching the city’s costs beforehand - Vancouver is the least affordable city in Canada and was ranked fifth among the priciest housing markets worldwide.

'They literally moved to the most expensive postal code in Canada with the highest demand for housing,' one user wrote.
'A Google search beforehand could have told you this. A million news articles have been written in the last 15 years about it,' they added.
Brigade also drew criticism for asking for help, even though countless other Canadians face the same hardships.
'Yeah so many Canadians are without a roof over their head due to finances, but sure this makes a ton of sense to ask,' another user posted.
