Trump heads to Iowa for final midterm blitz as 52 million Americans already cast their ballot

With only two days left until election day, more than 52 million Americans have already cast their ballot in what is shaping up to be one of the most decisive midterm elections in US history.

Polling ahead of the 2026 midterms indicates a 'blue wave' Democratic victory as Senate, House and governor seats are up for grabs – even in historically deep-red states that turned into political battlegrounds.

Donald Trump reversed his decision on rallying in Iowa, where he is scheduled to speak at 4pm Eastern Time, in a very final effort to boost Republican chances.

Like his Kansas rally, the Republican National Committee on Thursday canceled the president's visit to Iowa as representatives said the races are so safe to stay red, that Trump was not needed.

But in a last-minute back-and-forth, Trump changed his mind and is making an appearance in the Hawkeye State that turned out to be more battleground for conservative candidates than expected.

In the gubernatorial race, polls consistently show Democrat Rob Sand ahead of Republican hopeful Zach Lahn.

As for the Senate, Trump-endorsed Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson is on the statewide ballot for the first time, having represented a congressional seat on the eastern side of the state since 2021.

Josh Turek, a state lawmaker, emerged from a bruising primary to battle Hinson to a near dead-heat. One of his biggest backers has been former President Barack Obama.

And three out of four House races in Iowa are rated as a toss-up by the non-partisan Cook Political Report.
