Former FBI agent accused of stealing $1 million in crypto expected to plead guilty

Patrick Yaroch, a former FBI agent accused of stealing approximately $1 million in cryptocurrency, is scheduled to plead guilty on Thursday, according to court records.

Yaroch, 37, was a supervisor in the FBI's counterintelligence and espionage division until his arrest this summer. He allegedly accessed classified records for cases that weren't assigned to him and gained access to digital cryptocurrency wallets belonging to an adversarial nation, which court records do not name, the Washington Post reported.

He had planned to "build a life in Portugal" after he "misused his access to classified information to enrich himself," federal prosecutors in Virginia said in legal filings.

Yaroch is scheduled to appear before a federal judge in Alexandria, Virginia, for a plea agreement hearing on Thursday, according to an entry on the court's calendar. The judge must approve any plea deal before it's finalized.
