First lady Melania Trump will hold a meeting between representatives of Russia and Ukraine at the White House on Thursday, according to a statement.
Melania Trump negotiated a temporary humanitarian ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the city of Oleshky in October.
The ceasefire agreement followed months of warnings from Ukrainian officials about a humanitarian catastrophe building in the frontline town. The White House said that the ceasefire would "temporarily stop all military action in Oleshky to allow for humanitarian aid to enter and to prepare a civilian evacuation through a designated safe passageway."
The first lady is scheduled to deliver remarks on the ceasefire at 11 a.m. at the White House.
"Mrs. Trump independently initiated engagement between the two warring nations and successfully secured a ceasefire in Oleshky and the surrounding Kherson region. This achievement marks an unprecedented diplomatic initiative by an American First Lady," the White House said in a statement.
