Britain Arrests Former Ambassador To US Peter Mandelson Amid Epstein Probe

The Metropolitan Police said officers arrested Britain’s former ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, on suspicion of misconduct in public office in relation to the Epstein case.

London officers arrested Lord Mandelson, 72, Monday, on the same grounds as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, according to CNBC. Prior to his arrest, the police were investigating Mandelson’s alleged ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The news outlet reported that Mandelson’s name was not officially mentioned in police reports, a standard in Britain, but images of police escorting Mandelson from his home surfaced Monday.

“He was arrested at an address in Camden … and has been taken to a London police station for interview,” said the Metropolitan Police via a statement, according to CNBC.

“This follows search warrants at two addresses in the Wiltshire and Camden area,” police said.

Their statement continued, “We are not able to provide further information at this stage to prevent prejudicing the integrity of the investigation.”

Mandelson exited Britain’s House of Lords earlier in February.

Police were reportedly looking into allegations that Mandelson may have given market-sensitive information to Epstein while acting as a government minister during the 2009-2010 financial crisis, according to CNBC.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer fired Mandelson in September 2025 after his alleged relationship with Epstein was made public. Mandelson previously denied all wrongdoing.

The King has since issued a public statement asserting that he supports the police investigation into his younger brother.

Soon after Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest, the King said, “What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”

“Let me state clearly: the law must take its course,” he said.
