Man Allegedly Assaults Worker At Popular Fast Food Joint. Manager Gets Last Word With Trash Can

The manager of a Texas Whataburger restaurant subdued an unruly customer by beating him with a trashcan after the customer allegedly assaulted a worker during a Feb. 22 incident, video shows.

Officers from the Paris Police Department responded to the fast food restaurant, where they found the suspect, identified as Anthony William Newhuis, 41, bleeding from the head in the parking lot, according to WFAA. Newhuis was allegedly verbally abusive to workers at the location.

Billy Jones, who was eating at the restaurant when he witnessed the incident, told FOX 4 News that the suspect entered dressed in all black and allegedly began beating a worker. Another employee hit the suspect on the head with a wire fry basket, sending him to the ground.

Police said the restaurant manager asked the suspect to leave after he allegedly verbally abused the workers. He complied but allegedly threatened to return and assault the manager after police left, WFAA reported, citing officials. Newhuis was arrested by police and charged with assault resulting in bodily injury and public intoxication, WFAA reported. After he was taken to jail, Newhuis allegedly intentionally flooded the cells, which resulted in a criminal mischief charge under $750, police said.

A spokesperson for Whataburger responded to the incident in a statement to WFAA, saying, “At Whataburger, guest and employee safety are a top priority.”

“We take incidents such as this seriously and are fully cooperating with authorities,” the spokesperson continued.

This is not the first time an unruly customer has appeared to target restaurant workers.

In December, a customer allegedly threw an unknown object at a worker at a Chipotle in Connecticut, according to the New York Post.

The Daily Caller contacted the Paris Police Department, which did not immediately comment.
