Newsom Rolls The Dice On One Of Today’s Hottest Political Issues

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom staked out a pretty strong position on one of the biggest issues in modern politics: what to do about kids and social media.

Newsom now wants state legislation to limit social media access for teens under the age of 16, Politico first reported Thursday. A spokesperson, Tara Gallegos, said that the Democratic governor would back rules similar to those Australia implemented in 2025 that block kids from having social media accounts. However, it’s unclear whether he would be in full support of a total ban. Gallegos told Politico that his opinion, like many a politician, is fluid. Polls Show Neither Party Fully Owns The Only Midterm Issue That Matters

As the 2026 midterm elections draw nearer, voters across the country are sizing up the stakes in America’s supercharged political landscape.

Republicans are clinging to narrow majorities in both the House and the Senate amid a historical pattern that often punishes the party holding the White House. Democrats are looking to seize on this opportunity to take back control of Congress after the GOP still hasn’t solved the most important 2024 election issue. Still, neither side enters the midterms on a strong foot. Democrats and Republicans both have to grapple with vulnerabilities that could prove decisive.

“I certainly think that someone who grew up in the United States of America who benefited from our education system, from the freedoms and liberties that makes this country a great place, I would hope they want to compete with the United States of America. So, I’m going to root for American athletes, I think part of that is people who identify themselves as Americans. That’s who I’m rooting for in this Olympics,” Vance told Fox News host Martha MacCallum during a Tuesday interview, referencing Gu. (RELATED: Olympic Moms Keep Proving Eileen Gu Is A Selfish Idiot)
