A new migrant caravan bound for the United States left Honduras this week, according to photos shared by Reuters.

The migrants were seen walking through San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on Tuesday, the same day voters across the United States headed to the polls.

Some of the migrants left in anticipation of the blue wave that swept the nation.

"Trump is on his way out in these elections. That's why we're taking the risk. Here in Honduras, we have nothing left," Jimena Morazán, 47, said, according to one report.

"While they're going through the election process, we'll be on our way. We have faith that we'll arrive while they're busy with that," Beverly Medina, 39, who is traveling with her three-year-old daughter, said.

Migrant Jesús Carías, 30, said he joined the caravan with his family after learning about it on social media.

Last month, a different migrant caravan left Honduras and crossed into Southern Mexico before the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) declared that there was "absolutely ZERO chance" the group would gain entry into the United States.

Another migrant caravan formed in September but was quickly broken up by Mexican authorities near the Chiapas-Oaxaca border.

While President Donald Trump's policies at the southern border have largely deterred illegal immigration, there is concern that new Democrat leadership in border states like Texas could open the floodgates.

Texas Democrat Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa has yet to say whether she would end state cooperation with Border Patrol agents. Hinojosa has said she does not believe local authorities should work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest illegal immigrants.

She also previously opposed a state law that criminalized illegal border crossings.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has launched an effort to revoke or refuse visas to participants in migrant caravans.

Last Thursday, the State Department announced taking such actions against more than 15 people it said were "involved in organizing, facilitating, or promoting recent migrant caravans."

"A fundamental part of our strategy is to work closely with the authorities of other countries to stop the caravans before they approach our border. We recognize the recent decisive and effective actions of the governments of Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico," the embassy said.

"Through the establishment of checkpoints and coordinated work with DHS, these authorities managed to halt the flow of mass illegal immigration. Enforcing border security from the countries of origin delivers results," the embassy added.
