President Donald Trump floated the United States taking control of Cuba after the communist country’s Coast Guard killed four individuals on a boat registered in the state of Florida on Wednesday.

“The Cuban government is talking with us, and they’re in a big deal of trouble, as you know. They have no money, they have no anything right now, but they’re talking with us, and maybe we’ll have a friendly takeover of Cuba,” the president told reporters Friday, adding that the island nation is in “big trouble.”

You know, between the rapid pace of news events these days and the ubiquitous proliferation of media outlets, it’s very easy to get so overwhelmed with information that you lose your focus and let your mind drift to meaningless side issues like whether if you continually rewind “The Housemaid” so you can watch the Sydney Sweeney sex scene over and over, it will somehow show up on the feed so your wife will find out when she goes to watch one of those movies she likes where none of the women even takes her shirt off so what the hell’s the point.

Several prominent Democrats decried the fact that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended a number of DACA (Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals) recipients during the first year of President Donald Trump’s second term, demanding that they be given a “path to citizenship” in spite of data showing the “vast majority” of them had criminal histories.

In a stunning twist in the months-long war between Netflix and Paramount over which company would purchase Warner Bros., the streaming giant has bowed out.

After Warner Bros. released a statement on Thursday saying that the company’s board of directors viewed Paramount’s latest offer as a “superior proposal,” and that Netflix had four days to respond, the streamer backed out of the bidding war.

Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday that during Tuesday evening’s State of the Union address, he had only one thought running through his head the entire time: “Don’t make a stupid face for two hours.”

Vance, who sat directly behind President Donald Trump with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) during Trump’s record-setting speech, knew that he was going to be on camera the whole time the president was speaking, and was absolutely set on not making a fool of himself.

Block, the parent company of Cash App and Square, announced Thursday it will be laying off more than 4,000 employees — a move that sent the company’s stock up 25% in after-hours trading.

For most companies, laying off nearly half the workforce would send stockholders into a panic, tanking the stock within minutes of the announcement. But in 2026, investors in Block appear to have the opposite perspective — viewing humans as a liability in the modern economy, thanks in large part to the AI revolution.

I still remember where I was, and what I was doing, when I heard about the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, almost 14 years ago.

It was the second national tragedy in my lifetime — after 9/11 — that left an indelible and permanent mark on the conscience, something you remember for the rest of your days. The two events are not the same in terms of their scale, severity, geopolitical importance, or death toll. But they were so shocking, so morally outrageous, that they imprint themselves somewhere deep in your soul, like a kind of psychological impact crater.
