Child, 13, is found dead next to his 'seriously injured mother' in German hotel 'in attempted murder-suicide'

A child was found dead beside a seriously injured woman believed to be his mother at a hotel in Germany, amid reports of an attempted murder-suicide.

Police were called to the Eden Hotel Wolff near Munich's main railway station at around 9.40am following the discovery German newspaper Bild reports.

The woman, described by officers as a relative of the 13-year-old boy, was taken to hospital as detectives launched a homicide investigation.

German newspaper Bild reported that she was his mother and that investigators suspected she had killed her son before attempting to take her own life.

But police have not confirmed her relationship to the child or the newspaper's account of what happened, according to Der Spiegel.

A police spokesperson declined to confirm or deny the reported murder-suicide theory when approached by the German Press Agency.

Officers initially said the boy was 12 before correcting his age to 13.

Forensic specialists attended the hotel on Arnulfstrasse, while investigators were reported to be reviewing its CCTV footage.

A hotel employee was being supported at the scene by a crisis intervention team.

A spokeswoman said Munich's homicide squad was investigating the circumstances in all directions.

Police have not identified any potential suspects or disclosed details of possible injuries.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the boy's exact cause of death. Forensic experts were also on the scene.

The four-star hotel, which was founded in 1890, is located directly opposite Munich Central Station. It has more than 200 rooms, as well as an on-site restaurant and wellness facilities.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing, with police reviewing footage from the hotel's CCTV cameras.
