Common sense Democrat who opposes transgender madness announces she's running for Nancy Pelosi's congressional seat in San Francisco

A self-proclaimed common sense Democrat who advocates against transgender women competing in sports has launched her bid for Nancy Pelosi's congressional seat in San Francisco.

Marie Hurabiell, a political activist and former Trump appointee, announced on Wednesday that she is running for the seat and ready to stand up against 'failed policies' and 'ideological extremes.'

The candidate told the Daily Mail that she sees herself as a 'traditional Democrat', and said she 'absolutely rejects the radical policies that nearly destroyed our city.'

'We know these bad ideas don’t work and we should absolutely NOT export them to Washington DC to screw up the rest of the country like they did San Francisco,' Hurabiell told the Mail on Thursday.

'I am a no-nonsense woman and I mean business. All of us are tired of out-of-touch career politicians pushing extremist policies that cause chaos and uncertainty.'

Hurabiell, who only became a Democrat in 2022, is running against fellow Democrat Scott Wiener - a far-left Democrat who in 2024 was seen at the Folsom Street Fair wearing only a vest, tight black skinny jeans, and a loose tie.

Supervisor Connie Chan and tech founder Saikat Chakrabarti are also running for the congressional seat.

Although she once interned for Pelosi, who is set to retire in January 2027, Hurabiell has criticized her.

Unlike Pelosi, who she's referred to as an 'iconic' leader, Hurabiell strongly believes transgender women should not compete in women's sports.

The controversial topic remains an ongoing debate across the nation and is commonly supported by liberals, including Pelosi.

If elected, Hurabiell said she will continue to support 'maintaining the original intent of Title IX to ensure equal opportunity for women in education and athletics,' according to a press release.

She has also made her stance on the transgender community clear on social media, sharing that 'Trans women are NOT women' in a 2025 X post.

Additionally, Hurabiell has promised to focus on affordability and the working class amid the rise of artificial intelligence, if elected.

'Democrats must once again be the party of working people — focused on lowering costs, not expanding bureaucracy,' her campaign stated.

In a post to X last year, Hurabiell appeared to take aim at Pelosi about her alleged involvement in congressional stock trading.

Alongside a photo of Harry Truman and his quote, 'You can't get rich in politics unless you're a crook,' Hurabiell said: 'YES. I'd love to know how career politicians are worth tens or hundreds of millions of $$.'

The 85-year-old and her venture capitalist husband, Paul, also 85, have faced accusations of insider trading for years, as they have amassed a huge fortune despite her congressional salary of $223,000.

In December, The New York Times reported on Pelosi's 'widespread perception that she was on the wrong side of the debate over congressional stock trading,' adding that the accusation put an 'asterisk' on her legacy.

Supporters claim Hurabiell offers something 'different' than her rivals, and she says she knew she had to get involved after realizing 'there was no other viable moderate getting into the race.'

'The three current candidates in the race are essentially fighting for the same group of voters, and the rest of San Franciscans feel left out,' Hurabiell told The San Francisco Standard.

When contacted by the Daily Mail, Hurabiell's team said she still 'absolutely admires Nancy Pelosi and looks forward to carrying on her legacy.'

'Nancy is a moderate herself and an adult in the room. Marie is the most like her of any of the candidates. They are both working mothers and share a common Catholic faith,' they added.

Hurabiell is the founder of the political advocacy group ConnectedSF and is the fiancé of Mainul Mondal, the founder and CEO of Ellipsis Health.

She is also a previous Trump appointee, and served as a member of Trump's Presidio Trust board of directors during his first presidential term.

The federal agency was established in 1996 and helps manage and preserve the former military post for the Presidio in the Bay Area as a national park site.

Hurabiell was appointed to the group in 2018 as the vice chair and finance and audit committee chair.

After announcing her candidacy, Wiener's spokesperson took aim at his new opponent.

'Marie Hurabiell is a MAGA Republican Trump appointee who’s pretending to be a Democrat in an attempt to be taken seriously,' his spokesperson, Joe Arellano, said, the New York Post reported.

'We’ll add her to Scott’s MAGA Fan Club on our campaign website next to Laura Loomer and Kristi Noem.'

Chakrabarti’s team took a bit of a softer approach when reacting to Hurabiell throwing her hat in the ring.

'Marie is known as someone who speaks her mind and always keeps things interesting,' Tiffaney Bradley, Chakrabarti's spokesperson, told the outlet.

'And while our campaign will probably disagree on almost everything — what we have in common is that we know this city and this whole country needs change.'

The Daily Mail contacted Hurabiell, Wiener, Chan, and Chakrabarti's teams for comment.
