President Trump signed a new executive order in the Oval Office Monday afternoon — then turned to the cameras and delivered a warning Iran will not be able to misunderstand.

The order creates the first-ever President's Military Spouse Commission, an advisory body charged with attacking the everyday problems that can make military life so punishing for families.

But once the document was signed, the conversation quickly moved from military families to the possibility of a much larger military confrontation.

Trump said negotiations with Iran were happening "right now." He called the moment Tehran's "last chance" to sign a good agreement.

And he put a timeline on the first step.

"We are talking about the opening of the Strait by tomorrow," Trump told reporters. He described that as phase one, with a second phase focused on removing Iran's nuclear capacity.

That is an extraordinary amount of pressure packed into a few sentences.

Trump said the United States had been prepared to strike Iran on a scale greater than any attack since World War II, but held back after appeals from Iran and several Gulf nations. He specifically named Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar among the

Asked Monday whether he would federalize the nation's capital if the incoming administration starts undoing his public-safety policies, President Trump did not hesitate.

"Would I federalize D.C.? I'm allowed to do that!" he said from the Oval Office.

Then he turned directly to Democratic mayoral nominee Janeese Lewis George.

"She's a communist!" President Trump said.

The warning came after President Trump signed an executive order establishing the first Presidential Military Spouse Commission. Reporters questioned him at length after the Oval Office ceremony.

Lewis George is not mayor yet. She won Washington's Democratic primary in June and is heavily favored in the November general election, but voters will not choose the next mayor until November 3.

She is a self-described democratic socialist and a member of the D.C. Council.

New York will soon require social media users to verify their age, a form of digital ID, to access algorithmic feeds between midnight and 6 a.m.

The law, called the Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids Act, aims to enact social media restrictions for children and teenagers that curb access to "addictive" design features unless they obtain parental consent.

Although the legislation is written for minors, the age verification will impact every social media user.

The law takes effect in January.

"Social media companies, you're now on notice," Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a press conference, according to New York Daily News.

"Any platform that attempts to bombard our young people with addictive feeds or to monetize their mental health — which is exactly what's going on — will face legal action," she added.
