House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced Thursday that House Democratic leadership will force a vote next week on the Iran war powers resolution, which would require President Donald Trump to make his case to Congress before attacking Iran.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters Thursday after her deposition to the House Oversight Committee that she told lawmakers that she did not know Jeffrey Epstein and only knew his associate Ghislaine Maxwell as an "acquaintance." 

Netflix decided Thursday to drop its bid to acquire Warner Brothers Discovery after declining to match a bid from Paramount.

The two streamers have been locked in a war over Warner Brothers after Paramount launched a hostile bid to take over the company after the WBD board approved a bid from Netflix. The WBD board accepted Netflix's offer of $27.75 per share for Warner Bros. and HBO in an auction late last year, but Paramount has offered $30 per share.

New York City's socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani unexpectedly met with President Donald Trump at the White House Thursday, where the two discussed building more housing in New York.

The meeting was not previously announced in the president's schedule or by Mamdani, who became the city's mayor last month. It comes the same day the Department of Homeland Security officials detained a Columbia University student.

Former first lady Hillary Clinton on Thursday denied ever "encountering" Jeffrey Epstein during a closed-door deposition with the House Oversight Committee.

Clinton agreed to testify after previously ignoring a subpoena from the panel. The deposition is taking place in Chappaqua, N.Y. at a local performing arts center.

A federal judge ruled Thursday that construction of the White House ballroom may continue, in denying an attempt by a preservationist group to halt the full, tear-down renovation, at least temporarily.

U.S. District Judge for the District of Columbia Richard Leon, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush, ruled against the group's December 2025 request for a temporary injunction.

The Department of Homeland Security asked the Supreme Court Thursday to allow it to end its Temporary Protected Status designation for Syrian migrants, after the high court issued a stay that allowed it to end the protection for Venezuelans. 

America First Legal sued Philadelphia and its police department Wednesday over the department's allegedly discriminatory Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hiring and promotion practices.

The legal foundation said it filed the lawsuit on behalf of white male police officers within the department who were allegedly passed over for promotions because of their gender and race, despite having high civil exam scores, strong service records, positive annual performance reviews, and significant law-enforcement experience.

A Columbia University student was detained Thursday by Department of Homeland Security agents who "made misrepresentations" to enter the building on campus, according to the institution's president.

"Our understanding at this time is that the federal agents made misrepresentations to gain entry to the building to search for a 'missing person,'" Columbia's acting president Claire Shipman wrote in an email to the university, CBS News New York reported.

A bipartisan group of Illinois lawmakers have introduced energy legislation to protect consumers from costs associated with the state’s planned phaseout of natural gas.

Saying Illinois will not meet its 2035 electrification goals if the state eliminates energy options before they are replaced, the Clean Energy Choice Coalition advocated for a package of energy legislation at the Illinois Capitol this week.
