Retired prof under investigation after joking about shooting President Trump with his "high-power" camera: "It's great for a headshot"

When you try to make a joke but you fail so bad that the Secret Service visits you:

There's more context than what Libs of TikTok is posting, so let's get into it.

I have ordered a high power ATL 36X arriving shortly, which I hope to actually use to shoot the President of the United States. I'm not kidding. This is a very high powerful item and it's great for a headshot and distance. And I didn't want it to be delivered by drone because I wouldn't want something like that to be in the wrong hands. That's it. Thank you.

Anyone who knows guns probably recognizes right away that there's no such gun as an "ATL 36X."

He was talking about a telescopic camera lens.

Here's C and G News:

'He came up after the meeting to clarify he was referring to a camera lens. I think Mr. Arnold was trying to be a bit cheeky and clever in his rhetoric,' Warren City Council President Angela Rogensues said. 'He was making a joke. That's not something to be joking about.' ...

The topic wasn't even about Trump. Arnold was upset about a proposal to allow Amazon to use drones for deliveries.

He's also not entirely against Trump.

'I do not support killing people. I do not advocate assassinating our public officials. I have no intent, absolutely no intent of shooting the president,' he said. 'I don't particularly like Mr. Trump. He's done some lousy things. He's done some good things.'

More from Fox in Detroit:

Now that man, Wesley Arnold, is being investigated by the Secret Service. He claims it is all a big misunderstanding.

'I just gave the Service Service my picture I took,' he said.

FOX 2: 'You talked to the Secret Service?'

'They just left, they're the ones that left before you got here,' said Arnold, 80.

The Secret Service did remove a handgun from the home.

He again explained it was all a joke and that apparently no one has a sense of humor any more.

'That can let you take a picture from a very long distance away,' he said.

FOX 2: 'But you can see why people would be confused?'

'Oh yeah, I blew it,' Arnold said.

I'll let y'all discuss whether the U.S. government should be able to take away guns for jokes in poor taste.

Best not to make jokes about assassinating the president when a guy clipped his ear with a bullet, another guy tried to shoot him on his golf course, and yet another guy showed up at his house last week with a shotgun.
