Massachusetts nurse Nora Lussier first met baby Pamela as a patient in the NICU at Beverly Hospital.

The baby had been exposed to drugs in the womb and was to be placed in foster care at birth, but the foster family who was lined up to take her home from the hospital was not able to provide the specialized care that baby Pamela needed.

Lussier and her husband had already been thinking about becoming foster parents, and her coworkers gave her the push to intervene in her tiny patient's life. Lussier told WKRC,

I was kind of sitting there with her and thinking, 'Well, she is really cute.' All my coworkers, all my friends said, 'You should just take her. Just do it. Your husband won't notice'

Those are the kinds of friends we all need in life, and although her husband, Martin, definitely noticed, he was 100% on board with bringing Pamela home when she was released from the NICU.

Because Lussier was already caring for the baby in the NICU, the state was able to quickly approve the Lussiers as foster parents, and nearly two years later, on Pamela's 2nd birthday, they officially adopted the little girl, surrounded by family and friends.

Lussier told WKRC,

They say not to take work home with you, which I definitely did. Worked out well for me.

It definitely did.
