Well, that was money well spent.
I'm sorry, what? $40 MILLION?!
As a brief refresher, here's our original report on this ⌠fascinating automobile:
Some poor sap shelled out a cool $40 mil for that monstrosity.
More on the sale from Electrek:
Ferrari's first electric car sold for $40 million at RM Sotheby's Monterey auction Saturday night. The pre-sale estimate was $1.1 million.
That's more than 36 times the estimate, and roughly 62 times what the Luce costs on Ferrari's own price list. Every dollar goes to charity.
Charity, huh? It should go to the "The Guy Who Paid $40 Million For This Car Needs A Brain Transplant" fund.
It's been a roller coaster of a year for Ferrari's EV.
Ferrari's first EV got savaged at its Rome launch in May, RACE stock dropped on the reveal, former chairman Luca di Montezemolo said the badge didn't belong on it, and Ferrari replaced its marketing chief a month later.
Now the first one sold for $40 million.
Of course, the money's going to "charity," so the buyer must be getting one heck of a tax break.
Hope it was worth it, bud.
