Target pays $110 million to get out of Minneapolis lease

Target is starting to flee from East Berlin Minneapolis!

Target is headquartered in downtown Minneapolis - one of the city's largest companies. Six years ago, after BLM burned down the city for a violent felon who died fighting police while high as a kite, Target vacated the downtown City Center building.

(Covid lockdowns also sealed the deal.)

It's lease was supposed to run through 2031, but Target decided to cut its losses and get the heck outta there.

From the insanely left-wing Minneapolis Star Tribune:

The Minneapolis-based retailer has continued to pay rent for the offices as they sat dark, making City Center a symbol of the challenges and uncertainties facing a downtown that relied heavily on its white-collar commuter crowds.

I wonder why all the college-educated folks didn't want to return to Minneapolis after Covid and the Summer of Love...

Target did try to sublet the space but failed to attract tenants beyond law firm Fox Rothschild, which moved into about 40,000 square feet of offices in 2022.

A spokesman for Target declined to comment on the lease-ending agreement but emphasized the company's commitment to downtown Minneapolis. The retailer had been downtown's biggest employer for years, but slid below Hennepin Healthcare in 2024.

The company still has two corporate offices in the area: One in Nicollet Mall just a few blocks away, and the other is safely north of the city and its mostly peaceful activities.

Leftists have spent the last several months storming the corporate offices because Target won't condemn the operations of federal law enforcement officers who have been tasked with arresting pedophiles, traffickers, and murderers who entered the United States illegally.

Target, let us know when you want to move the rest of your offices to the other side of the Woke Iron Curtain!
